My higher rated opponent walks into a prepared line and is on the ropes after just 18 moves .. just one more punch will knock him out .. I take a giant swing at him and miss!

Black has to play Kg7 and Nf6, even so he is not happy ..
but 10. ... e6 leaves huge black square weaknesses

Black weakens his black squares more, and weakens his 2nd rank as well .. black is in big trouble
13. Bg5 Qg7 14. Nb5!? Qxb2?
White just has to find the right moves and black will be squashed
15. Qc7+ Kf8 16. Qd8+ Kg7 17. Qc7+ Kf8 18. Be7+ ??

A dissapointing result, I had a winning position at move 18 but threw it away... the correct move was 18. Rc1! and black will lose large amounts of material when the rook arrives on c7.

is there any reason to not play 14. Qc7+? and then go in with your Knight?
Cal eventually he can but not before he moves his knight with check.

From here its mate in two. The purpose of black playing Qd4 is to stop Qh4 followed by mate. Your queen check while not terrible and still winning was in my mind slightly inaccurate.
Actually I take that back you queen check might have lead to mate quicker:
15. Qc7+ Kf8
16. Qd8+ Kf7
17. Nd6+ Kg7
18. Qc7+ Kf8
19. Qf7#
Now I see that it does lead to mate more quickly. It's always hard losing these games but they teach lessons: like the game isn't over until its over. Anyways I've felt this pain.
